Studies brain function, mental health, and the immune system and competes on a women's roller derby team.
"We can change the world, one neuron, one brain, and one person at a time!"
Meet a neuroscientist who is changing the world one neuron, one brain, one person at a time! Dr. Liz Engler-Chiurazzi is an Assistant Professor at Tulane University. During graduate school, Dr. Liz studied women's health and explored how hormones like estrogen impact learning and memory during aging. In her laboratory now, Dr. Liz wants to unravel how the nervous and immune systems interact to influence how our brains function normally, in times of stress, and as we age. She hopes that her research will support both the development of novel treatments and will destigmatize mental health or neurological disorders, such as depression. Dr. Liz is also actively involved in community engagement and neuroscience education to the public; with the support of the IF/THEN initiative, she has launched the NOLA Books & Brains program.
